Is there a single not crappy/questionable jump starter pack? Seems like they are all chinesium knockoffs of the o riginal Anti-gravity (Which is ancient and expensive now) , or NOCO which are underperforming overprice junk.

You know what I would buy? A well engineered jump starter from a quality brand that can build something consistently. Good idea time?

how about a jump starter pack that runs off a cordless tool battery. They are crazy expensive, but they are powerful, high quality ubiquitous and having them be interchangeable means you can always have one ready.  I guess the problem is dedicating a battery to a jump starter.  I would still buy one because I travel with my power tools on trips.  In the meantime...someone needs to make a good jump starter pack.

The one we use is a Powertech branded item sold into Oz by Jaycar. I picked ours up for a hundred. Supercheap Auto sells something similar.

So far it has started everything from the Forester to the Patrol and even our 6cyl Perkins engine in the tractor. No complaints.

With classic cars, I’ve always keep eyeing these at costco, but the engrish in some of the packaging makes me nervious of keeping them charged in my car.

I have this:

Kinja'd!!!

It’s tiny, and I did successfully use it to jump start my S40 once. Haven’t tired it on the S60, though it claims it can do up to 2.5L, so maybe it will work if I need it? Probably should charge it one of these days, it’s been a while since I had it out.

DB power keeps coming up as one of the better ones.

I pai d $28 for it, so I’d say between the one jump, and a couple uses as a USB charger, it’s earned it s keep.

$65 at Harbor Fraught, heavy as heck to trav el with, but technically portable and reliable (provided you remember to plug it in overnight once every 3 months)

Dewalt makes a portable one. Now its pretty bulky but it is portable. I think it charges on AC power tho with built in batteries

I’ve got one although I don’t know what brand it is. Got it on amazon for like $80 or so several years ago. It usually always have it when cruising in the Scorpion. It’s been good in the Fiero too since the battery kinda needs pretty long cables to get if you need to jump it.

Strangely enough I have never had to use it on any of my cars while out and about but have used them several times for other people. Is really much less of a hassle than lining the cars up and all that.

I bought one from Roav, Anker’ s automotive brand. I’ve had really good experiences with Anker products.

This is relevant to my interests. A couple of times I’ve had to start the van, and I got a black and decker charger as a gift. It charges well over a few hours. It also has a jump start function that has never worked on the minivan battery.

I also got extra long jumper cables because my batteries are never in the convenient side for a jump without moving the car.

I have a very large “anti-gravity” one, I have jumped cars, trucks, and tractors with it in addition to charging my phone while camping out and using its built-in flash light. I’ve been pleased with it. Too big to keep on your person but it tucks away well in a trunk.

We have two of the big lead-acid boosters, both Motomaster brand from Canadian Tire. The trick with them is when the original Chinese battery wears out you can replace it with a higher quality battery, it’ll preform better then new.

I just bought a NOCO one from Woot so I’ll see how that goes. At least it was only $30.  I bought it more as a charger than a jump pack so as long as my battery makes it out of winter storage with a charge I’m good.

I found the same as you, none of these seem rock solid. I bought a NOCO after being stranded in the woods with a dead battery. I wanted something light, so didn't get the full size jump box, plus figured it would help me charge phones. Didn't use it at all on first outing, barely lost any charge in 2 days of freezing temps. We will see what happens when it is really tested.

I have the Anker one linked below. I’ve used it a number of times. Saved me a lot of trouble on numerous occasions and was also able to help a few people out with it. Now I don’t go anywhere without it. It stays really charged without using it for a long time as well. It’s useful for a massive USB battery if you have a power outage or an extended trip with no power access as well.

Th e test in the video above showed it being kind of a dog...but was it that unit or all units. I feel like consistency in these are all over the map.

I kind of agree. My first uses showed it to be good enough, not wow. My concern is how will it work with a tight engine at zero degrees.

But then again I don’t know what to expect so who knows.
